PostgreSQL 15 new features
PostgreSQL 15, the latest version of the popular open-source relational database management system, was released on October 3rd, 2021 and it comes with several new features and improvements:
- Parallelized Vacuum: PostgreSQL 15 introduces parallelized VACUUM and ANALYZE commands, which can greatly improve performance on large tables by running multiple vacuum processes in parallel.
- Improved Partition Pruning: PostgreSQL 15 introduces improved partition pruning, which allows the query optimizer to more effectively prune partitions that are not needed for a given query, resulting in faster query execution.
- Just-in-Time (JIT) Compilation: PostgreSQL 15 adds support for JIT compilation, which can improve the performance of certain types of queries by dynamically compiling them at runtime.
- Improved Parallel Query Execution: PostgreSQL 15 introduces improved parallel query execution, which allows the query planner to create more efficient parallel query plans, resulting in faster query execution.
- Improved Indexing: PostgreSQL 15 introduces improved indexing, which allows for more efficient indexing of large data sets.
- Improved Backup and Recovery: PostgreSQL 15 introduces improved backup and recovery, which allows for more efficient and reliable backups of large data sets.
- JSON Path Queries: PostgreSQL 15 introduces support for JSON path queries, which allows for querying JSON data using a SQL-like syntax.
- Improved Security: PostgreSQL 15 introduces improved security, which allows for more secure communication between servers and clients.
- Improved performance with parallelism and parallel indexing.
- Improved support for parallelism and parallel indexing, which allows for faster query execution and indexing of large data sets.
- Improved support for full-text search with the introduction of new full-text search operators and improved performance of existing ones.
